John J. Hogan, a founding member of the Firm, focuses his practice on criminal defense and all facets of real estate, land use, land development, residential and commercial sales, commercial and personal injury litigation. Mr. Hogan additionally devotes a portion of his practice to assisting commercial and residential property owners in challenging and reducing their real estate taxes. He was an Assistant District Attorney with the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office from 1988 to 2012. During his 24 years as an Assistant District Attorney, he prosecuted crimes in every criminal court in Putnam County.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Hogan worked for the New York State Attorney General’s Office from 1978 to 1987. In 1988-1989, he was an Associate in the Law Office of Gregory Bagen, concentrating in commercial litigation and personal injury litigation. From 1989 to 1991, he was associated with the Law Office of Kevin L. Wright where he practiced municipal, commercial and personal injury litigation.
Mr. Hogan formed the law firm of Stephens & Hogan in 1991, and its successor firms Stephens Hogan & Rossi, and Hogan & Rossi. During the period of 1991 through 2000, he served as counsel to the Town of Southeast, handling various matters before all boards of the town, including Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and Town Board matters. He also served as special prosecutor of violations of Town Code provisions in local Justice Court.
